How does this cleat release compare to the multi-release SM-SH56?
The SM-SH51 releases in a single, consistent direction — an outward twist of the heel. The SM-SH56 allows release by twisting in either direction, or by lifting and twisting the heel, making it more forgiving for beginners or riders with limited knee mobility. The SM-SH51 is the standard cleat most Shimano SPD pedals come with.
Do I need these if I already have cleats on my pedals?
Only if your current cleats are worn — worn cleats can cause premature or stubborn release, so it’s worth replacing them periodically even if they still look intact.
What does "4 degrees of float" mean?
