In a conscious effort to promote healthier and eco-friendly commuting options, the 1999 Finance Act introduced an annual tax exemption aimed at encouraging employers to provide bicycles and safety equipment to their employees. This tax-free benefit, known as the Cycle to Work Scheme, emerged as part of the Government’s ambitious Green Transport Plan, which aimed to reduce environmental pollution while enhancing employee well-being. Fortunately, the administration of this scheme can be effortlessly handled either by your employer or by specialised companies that excel in acting as administrators. It’s important to note that when purchasing bike and accessories using these certificates, a nominal charge of 10% of the voucher total is applicable to items already discounted from the full RRP. For instance, if you choose to utilise a £1000 voucher to acquire a discounted item, a £100 charge will be incurred. Please bear in mind that discount codes cannot be applied to Cycle to Work orders, ensuring a fair and consistent process for all participants.
