What does "fixed" mean on this cleat?
It means zero float — no rotational play at all once you’re clipped in. Your foot stays in exactly one position, which maximises power transfer but removes the small rotational give that floated cleats (Blue/Yellow) offer.
Is this a good cleat for someone new to clipless pedals?
Not usually the best starting point. A floated cleat gives your knees some natural rotational play as you pedal, which most new riders find more comfortable. The Red fixed cleat suits riders who already have a dialled-in position and want maximum power transfer.
