HJC Adwatt 1.5 TT & Triathlon Helmet

£299.00

The HJC ADWATT 1.5 sits squarely between a full aero shell and a road helmet — built for triathletes who need aerodynamic advantage without cooking on the run course. Ventury Dynamics airflow management, a UV-protective shield, and X-Static silver-fibre padding combine to keep you fast, cool, and comfortable across long-distance efforts.

  • Key Features

    • Ventury Dynamics — Active ventilation system using pressure differentials to extract heat through rear vents, maintaining airflow even at aero riding angles
    • Advanced Air Channel System — Internal channels route fresh air across the head to accelerate heat dissipation
    • UV-Protective Shield — Integrated visor with 99% UV protection; aerodynamically equivalent with shield fitted or removed
    • X-Static® Padding — Silver-fibre inner padding with permanent antimicrobial properties; stays fresher for longer between washes
    • In-Mold Construction — EPS liner bonded to polycarbonate shell for a stiff, lightweight structure
    • Wind Tunnel Tested — Validated in HJC’s own test facility across ventilation, aerodynamics, and noise performance
    • Long-Distance Focus — Designed specifically for the aero/ventilation compromise demanded by triathlon and multi-hour TT efforts

HJC ADWATT 1.5 — Aero Performance for Long-Distance Triathlon

Most dedicated TT helmets make a straightforward trade: aerodynamics in exchange for ventilation. That’s fine for a 40km time trial. It’s harder to justify across an Ironman bike leg when you still have a marathon ahead of you. The ADWATT 1.5 is HJC’s answer to that problem — an aero helmet engineered to run meaningfully cooler than the category standard, without giving up the aerodynamic gains that make a TT-style lid worth wearing in the first place.

HJC’s Ventury Dynamics system is the centrepiece. It applies a technical adaptation of Bernoulli’s principle to the helmet’s airflow: as air accelerates across the outer surface toward the rear, pressure differentials pull heat out through the exhaust vents, drawing fresh air in through the frontal intake. The result is active heat dissipation rather than passive ventilation — the helmet doesn’t just have vents, it uses them. Paired with an Advanced Air Channel System that routes air internally across the head, the ADWATT 1.5 delivers measurably better cooling than a sealed aero shell while maintaining the aerodynamic profile triathletes are after.

    Shield, Fit and Comfort

The integrated shield is built to match the helmet’s aerodynamic performance whether it’s in place or removed — HJC have engineered both configurations to produce equivalent drag characteristics, so you’re not penalised for riding visor-up. The shield carries 99% UV protection, useful for long outdoor efforts where visor-down is the default. Inside the helmet, X-Static padding uses 99.9% metallic silver bonded permanently to the fibre surface — silver’s natural antimicrobial properties mean the padding stays fresher across multi-day race weeks and repeated training sessions without washing.

Construction is in-mold, bonding the EPS liner and polycarbonate shell at the manufacturing stage for a helmet that’s structurally stiffer and lighter than equivalent post-mold construction. Every ADWATT 1.5 is wind tunnel validated — HJC operates its own test facility, allowing airflow, ventilation, and noise performance to be measured across a range of riding positions before the helmet goes to market.

FAQ

Questions and answers relating to HJC Adwatt 1.5 TT & Triathlon Helmet

What makes the ADWATT 1.5 different from a standard TT helmet?

Answer

A standard TT helmet prioritises aerodynamics and accepts poor ventilation as the trade-off. The ADWATT 1.5 uses HJC’s Ventury Dynamics system and internal air channels to deliver active cooling while maintaining an aerodynamic profile — making it better suited to longer efforts where heat management matters as much as drag reduction.

Does removing the shield affect aerodynamics?

Answer

No. HJC have engineered the ADWATT 1.5 so the aerodynamic performance is equivalent whether the shield is fitted or removed. You can ride visor-up without a penalty.

What is X-Static padding and why does it matter?

Answer

X-Static is a fibre made by permanently bonding 99.9% metallic silver to the surface. Silver is naturally antimicrobial, so the padding resists odour build-up across repeated use without washing. For race-week training blocks or back-to-back long rides, it keeps the helmet’s interior noticeably fresher.

Is this helmet suitable for Ironman-distance racing?

Answer

The ADWATT 1.5 is specifically designed around the demands of long-distance triathlon — where a standard TT helmet’s ventilation limitations become a genuine performance issue. The combination of aero shaping and active heat management makes it a strong choice for 70.3 and full Ironman bike legs.

What accessories are compatible with the ADWATT 1.5?

Answer

HJC produce a dedicated shield (clear and smoke variants), a magnet system, replacement inner padding, and a fit system — all specific to the ADWATT and ADWATT 1.5. These are available separately.

How do I choose the right size?

Answer

Measure your head circumference at its widest point and match to HJC’s size guide: S fits 51–56cm, M fits 55–59cm, L fits 58–63cm. Note that S and M overlap slightly at 55–56cm — if you fall in that range, try both before deciding. If you’re unsure, come into to see us in our Dereham shop and we’ll fit it for you.
