Argon 18 E-117 Tri Disc FAQs

Everything you need to know before ordering a Argon 18 E-117 Tri Disc through Tri Harder.

  • Is the E117 a good first triathlon bike?

Yes — it’s specifically designed as an entry point into dedicated TT/tri riding. The adjustable 3D headset and open cockpit let you fine-tune your aero position as you gain experience, rather than forcing an aggressive setup from day one.

  • What's the difference between the E117 and the E119?

The E117 is Argon 18’s more accessible tri bike, built around adjustability and ease of use. The E119 is the brand’s flagship, with more advanced integration and a more aggressive race-focused setup.

  • Is the E117 UCI-legal?

Yes, it’s a UCI-legal frame, so it’s raceable in draft-legal and standard triathlon/TT events under UCI rules.

  • What groupset options are available on the E117?

Shimano 105, Shimano 105 Di2, SRAM Rival AXS, Shimano Ultegra Di2, and SRAM Force AXS, ranging from £3,900 to £7,800.

  • Can I get the E117 fitted at Tri Harder?

Yes — every custom bike order includes a free bike fit, and Ben can talk you through sizing and position before you commit to a build.

What We Think Of The Argon 18 E-117 Tri Disc

Our Verdict

The E117 is where we point most people buying their first dedicated TT or triathlon bike. It's UCI-legal, race-ready, and doesn't punish you for still dialling in your position — the 3D headset system and open cockpit mean there's real room to adjust as your aero position evolves, rather than locking you into day-one geometry.

What we like

  • Genuinely adjustable fit system — forgiving for riders still finding their aero position
  • Thru-axles add real stiffness without the weight penalty of older tri frames
  • Strong value at the Shimano 105 entry point relative to what you get
  • Five build options from £3,900 to £7,800 — real room to grow within the same frame

Worth knowing

  • Entry-level build (Shimano 105) uses a more basic wheelset and non-integrated cockpit — the aero gains ramp up meaningfully at the Di2 tiers
  • Not the lightest or most aggressive frame in the range if you're already an experienced TT rider chasing marginal gains — that's more the E119's territory

Best For

First-time triathletes and TT racers who want a proper race bike without committing to the most extreme (and least forgiving) aero position on day one.
