As I write this, I am exactly 1 week away from jumping off the back of a ferry and starting the NORSEMAN. I will be honest, I am unsure if I am terrified or just bloody excited.
Over the last 6 weeks I have put in a big training block and so I know that my body is ready, it’s just a case of telling my mind.
Training for the Norseman has been very different, and I wanted to give you some insight into what I have been up to. My training has predominantly consisted of the following,
- Step machine in the gym.
- Power hiking / running up mountains of around 1500m elevation.
- Hilly bike rides of around 2000m elevation.
- Hilly runs up to about 2.5 hours.
- Hilly run intervals (these were so hard!).
- Brick runs off the bike into a hill.
You may see a theme here, basically anything you can do on a hill, I have done.
The only thing that hasn’t changed much is my pool sessions. However, I have also been doing some cold water acclimatisation and for Christmas I got myself a cold water pod for the garden. I would really recommend getting a cold water pod! It’s become more than just cold water acclimatisation training and the buzz you get after is great.
I have no idea what to expect in terms of weather and I have seen some very cold looking youtube videos, so I am packing kit for all eventualities, including winter cycling gloves (I have heard windchill can be 1degrees C on the plateau).
Whatever the day brings, I feel I have done all that I can to prepare! Please follow along on Saturday 3rd August to support from afar! Tracking will be available online and Norseman insta will be doing live stories!
